Day 1: Munich – Arrival
Upon arrival to Munich Airport, you are met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel near Theresienwiese – the Oktoberfest grounds. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional Bavarian restaurant (Ratskeller) and overnight at your hotel in Munich. (D)
Day 2: Munich – Oktoberfest Opening Day
Breakfast at your hotel. Consider attending the opening day parade. This is the official prelude to the opening of the Oktoberfest and involves about 1,000 participants, including the landlords’ families in decorated carriages, the magnificent horse-drawn drays of the Munich breweries, waitresses on decorated floats and all the beer tent bands. Day 3: Munich
After breakfast at your hotel, attend the Costumes & Rifleman’s Parade, which gives an impressive insight into the fascinating diversity of customs rooted in the heart of Bavaria. A varied succession of regional costume groups, “troops” in historical uniforms, marching bands, riflemen, thoroughbred horses, livestock, the decorated drays of the Munich breweries, floats displaying typical local traditions, and historic carriages all pass by in a 7-kilometer-long procession through the streets of the city center. After lunch at a traditional restaurant, enjoy an afternoon tour of the historic center of Munich and see Marienplatz and the Neues Rathaus, the Frauenkirche, the Viktualienmarkt, and Hofbrauhaus Munchen – arguably the world’s most famous beer hall. Day 4: Munich
Breakfast at your hotel. Enjoy a private Oktoberfest tour, during which you will learn about the origins of Oktoberfest and Bavarian beer culture, and tour the Oktoberfest grounds. Celebrate Oktoberfest at a reserved tent with lunch and 2 Mass (liters) of beer each. Visit a second reserved tent for dinner with beer included. Overnight at your hotel in Munich. (B,L&D)
Day 5: Munich
After breakfast at your hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy Munich at your own pace and perhaps visit the Oktoberfest grounds again on your own. Consider an optional guided tour of BMW Welt, where you can learn everything about the BMW brand and observe new BMW cars leaving the factory, or an optional tour of Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace in the Bavarian Alps. Overnight at your hotel in Munich. (B)
Day 6: Munich
Breakfast at your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy Munich at your own pace and perhaps visit once more the Oktoberfest grounds on your own. Consider an optional guided tour of BMW Welt, where you can learn everything about the BMW brand and observe new BMW cars leaving the factory, or an optional tour of Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace in the Bavarian Alps.
